K-ON! Film reaches 1 Billion Yen Milestone

New figures released on Monday 26th December have confirmed that the K-ON! Movie has now made over 1 Billion Yen! This landmark amount had taken only 24 days to be reached.

The previous figures were announced last week showed that the film had made almost 1 billion yen and had sold over 700,000 tickets. The week before that figures were released that showed the film had made 691million yen and sold 523,274 tickets in the nine days after it's release.

With these figures now released, it appears that the K-ON! movie is still very much a fan favourite, and is still one of the most popular films in Japanese cinemas.

'Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny' game announced for PS Vita

In the most recent issue of the Weekly Famitsu magazine, released in Japan, an announcement has been made that Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny will be released for the Playstation Vita handheld console.

The game will include network play (I cannot find anywhere that says if this will be both AD-HOC and Infrastructure, or just one of these as yet, but this will no doubt be released soon) and will include mobile suits such as Destiny Gundam, Impulse Gundam, Freedom Gundam, Strike Freedom Gundam, Justice Gundam, Infinite Justice Gundam, Akatsuki, Providence Gundam, Gundam Astray Blue Frame Revise, Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai, and Destroy Gundam. This will obviously include the mobile suits respective pilots.

Hopefully more information will be released for this game soon, in the mean time here are some more scans from the magazine:

Manga Entertainment announces UK Anime Best Sellers of 2011

Manga Entertainment have announced their best-selling anime titles of the year through their twitter feed, @MangaUK. The top 7 are as follows:
1: Akira (Blu-Ray - 2011 re-release)
2: Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time (DVD)
3: Summer Wars
4: 5 Centimetres per Second
5: Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance
6: Highschool of the Dead
7: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Volume 3
In further discussions with fans on their twitter feed, they mentioned that the placing of Yu-Gi-Oh in the second spot was most likely due to it being 'available in Asda and Morrisons, came with a free rare card and was stupidly cheap on shelf'.
They also noted that, although the top 5 were all feature films, anime series were still their main sellers, stating that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, D.Gray-Man, Eden of the East and Darker than Black were all 'going strong'. Going in to further detail they then said that the Naruto Shippuden volumes 5-7 sold 'over 16,000 copies this year' and Bleach seasons 6 and 7 'sold over 8,000 units this year combined '.

K-ON! Film has made almost ¥1billion, sold over 700,000 tickets

I posted last week that the K-ON! Movie had sold over 500,000 tickets and made ¥691million. The same site has now updated it's figures on the film, and latest data shows that it has now sold over 700,000 tickets and made almost ¥1billion yen in the 16 days since it's release.
The film was also ranked fifth in the Japanese box office, after having strong competition from Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki which is currently in fourth at the box office.
Unfortunately there is currently no anticipated release date for any other areas, but I personally hope it does make it to foreign cinemas as K-ON! has a very large fanbase the world over.

Playstation Vita sells 321,407 units in first 2 days

The Japanese publisher Enterbrain announced today that Sony Playstation Vita has sold 321,407 units in just the first 2 days of being on sale in Japan (from 17th December).

By comparison, the Playstation Portable (PSP) sold 166,074 units in its first 2 days on sale, and the Nintendo 3DS sold 371,326 units in its first 2 days of sales.

Hopefully this will mean a bright future for the Playstation Vita, especially after the piracy issues and lack of developers later in the PSP's life cycle.

Today Square Enix began streaming an 8min trailer for their newest Kingdom Hearts title, Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance), which will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in March 2012. The trailer was first shown at the Jump Fiesta 2012 event, which happened in Japan at the weekend.

The trailer shows that there will be new characters coming to the series from another Square Enix title, The World Ends With You. It will also include worlds from classic Disney films Pinocchio, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Three Musketeers, and Tron: Legacy. The title will also make use of the new Expansion Slide Pad accessory for the 3DS.

'Black Butler' manga anticipating over 10 million sold by end of the year

Yana Toboso's manga series 'Black Butler' (Kuroshitsuji) has its 13th volume set for release on the 27th December. With this release, along with the spin-off series, they are anticipating to have sold over 10 million copies.

For a relatively new series that is a brilliant milestone to have reached.

UK Anime Releases - 19th to 25th December

As my usual sources of news are a bit slow today I thought I would start informing you all of the upcoming anime releases for the UK. As it is the christmas season you may find it hard to get these delivered on time for christmas day, but they will also be released in stores nationwide.

19th December
Casshern Sins: Complete Series Collection
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Complete Series 2
The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya / Nyoron! Churuyu-san Part 1

Unfortunately those appear to be the only releases this week, but at least there are two releases to tide over any Haruhi Suzumiya fans to the new year, and the Casshern boxset looks HUGE (7 discs and 600 minutes of footgage) so that should take any fan a while to get through.

'Only Yesterday' Review

'Only Yesterday' was shown as one of the films in Film 4's Studio Ghibli Season. Right from the start of the film it appears to be a break from tradition for the team as the film is based more on normal life than the fantasy worlds or situations that Studio Ghibli are famous for.

The film revolves around an office worker from Tokyo called Taeko Okajima, who wants to finally make a second trip to the countryside to pick safflower plants that she had been dreaming of ever since she was a girl. During the trip she reminisces about her school days, and all the trivial things that adults wouldn't think twice about any more. For example, the girls get told that they will start having periods soon whilst in a school assembly, and the boys then start diving at the floor to look up the girls skirts to see if they have their period, or telling one of Taeko's friends not to pick up the ball as they will 'catch her period'.

Once in the countryside Taeko begins work on a farm with her friend Toshio, who has worked on a farm for a large amount of his life, and the other woman who pick the safflower plants.
This setting looks very peaceful, and is very well animated as some of the scenes show an amazing amount of detail on all of the greenery. All of the flashbacks actually feel older, as the palette used seems to be paler than the modern parts of the story, giving the feeling that the memories are possibly a little cloudy in Taeko's mind.

The story is very easy to follow, and as such is a film that can be put on at any time of day and enjoyed. The flashback sequences may take up a large part of the film, but they do not detract anything from the storyline (which has been the case in a few other films) and are implemented incredibly well.
All in all, it may not be one of Studio Ghibli's best and most enjoyable films, but it is a very good film none-the-less, and shows a slice of the Japanese lifestyle, something that Otaku's love.

New 'Redline' english dub trailer pre-US release

Hyper-speed, death defying, amazingly beautiful film Redline is yet to hit the US shores yet, after having been released in Asia and Europe, and with the release date of 17th January creeping ever closer entertainment website 'Buzz Focus' has posted a new clip to tantalise more fans.

The clip is of the climatic race of the film, with JP trying to win the Redline race. If you have not seen the film I would recommend you buy it on blu-ray, as the film looks absolutely amazing in high definition.

The new trailer is viewable here

'Little Norse Prince' Review

One of the films as part of the Studio Ghibli season on Film 4 is one of the earliest titles created by the studio, and that is Little Norse Prince. Released in 1968, it is a prime example of how Studio Ghibli have become one of the most loved anime studios in the business.

'Little Norse Prince' starts with our hero Horusu trying to escape a pack of wolves, with nothing more than his hatchet that his father passed on to him, and the rope it is attached to. This is brought to an abrupt end by an appearance of a Stone God who quickly overshadows all the wolves, who know better than to attempt to take him on just to get the boy. Horusu then helps the Stone God with a 'thorn' in his shoulder that is actually The Sword of the Sun, which when forged properly will become a tremendously powerful weapon. And so the quest begins...

Horusu travels to another village in search of someone to help him forge the sword, and in the process meets Hiruda, a girl with a beautiful singing voice but hides a sinister side, and an evil sibling who forces her to do his dirty work.

Although the character design does look dated, and the animation does look a little worse-for-wear when the action really kicks off, it is still a really good example of what Studio Ghibli do best. There are scenes that tug at your heart-strings, scenes that shock you (the first time you realise everything is not as it seems with Hiruda is prime example of this) and scenes that make you think 'so this is where *insert anime title* got an idea from then!'. Definitely not one to be missed.

'Metal Gear Rising' becomes 'Metal Gear Revengeance' - Interview

Recently Kojima-san of Kojima Productions came out to tell everyone that 'Metal Gear Rising' was still in works but now called 'Metal Gear Revengeance'. The original trailer for the game was shown a while ago now (remember Raiden cutting up the watermelon with his sword?), and all press sources had been very quiet since that day. Kojima-san also came on to twitter to tell all the fans that it will NOT be a direct sequel to MGS4, and will merely be a side story of the franchise focusing on Raiden.

Now, Konami have posted a video online of both Hideo Kojima and Atsushi Inaba, of Platinum Games, giving more information regarding the project. The game is now being developed by Platinum Games, who already have stylised action game Bayonetta under their belt, and is looking very promising.

Here is the link to the interview: Source

K-ON! Movie makes over ¥600million in just 9 days

Figures released earlier this week show that the K-ON! Movie, the first full length film of the Light Music Club, made ¥691million yen and sold over 523,000 seats at the cinemas.
If there was any doubt about the popularity of K-ON! I believe these figures will prove it is still as big a fan favourite as when we first saw Yui, Mio, Ritsu, Mugi and Azu-nyan on our small screens, enjoying cake and tea more than their music.

Film4's Christmas Studio Ghibli Season

This may be old news to some of you, especially as it is now four days in, but Film4 (a digital television channel in the United Kingdom) announced recently that they will be screening a Studio Ghibli film everyday from the 10th to 25th December.

The films on offer are a mixture of popular and well known Ghibli titles, like My Neighbour Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, and the lesser known titles of their extensive and impressive back catalogue, like Castle of Cagliostro or The Little Norse Prince. Film4 have also made the decision to run all the films with their original Japanese voice talent with English subtitles. This Christmas season definitely has a treat every day in the run up to the big day!

The full list of titles is as follows (all times are GMT):

Ponyo - 10th December 6.55pm
Princess Mononoke - 11th December 4.40pm
Tales from Earthsea - 12th December 4.25pm
Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro - 13th December 4.45pm
The Little Norse Prince - 14th December 5.10pm
Only Yesterday - 15th December 4.10pm
Whisper of the Heart - 16th December 5.05pm
The Cat Returns - 17th December 4.50pm
Kiki's Delivery Service - 18th December 4.25pm
Castle in the Sky - 19th December 4.25pm
Pom Poko - 20th December 4.15pm
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds - 21st December 4pm
Porco Rosso - 22nd December 4.55pm
Ocean Waves - 23rd December 5.30pm
My Neighbour Totoro - 24th December 5.15pm
Ponyo (Repeated) - 25th December 5.10pm

I personally am surprised that the other two Studio Ghibli films that received a cinema release in the UK (Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle) are not part of this schedule, but this looks like a brilliant season none-the-less.

Studio Ghibli Season on Film4

New Title, New Goals, New Ideas, Fresh Start

Hello All,

For those of you that read my blog regularly will have noticed, it has all now changed. I decided this last night after a lot of consideration of what to do with my blog to make it more appealing to other people, and more interesting to myself to make me want to post even more regularly. The decision I made was to focus on my favourite past-time of all, Japan!

In this rebooted blog I will be talking about anime, manga, computer games, music, otaku culture and all things Japan inbetween. All of the above, I realised recently, are things I interact with everyday which is where my decision for change came from, as I do study everyday but sometimes not enough to make a decent blog post from (who wants to hear about revision?!?!?!).

I already have plans for quite a few posts, and will be sharing them in the next few days. In the meantime, the site design is still a work-in-progress and will hopefully be complete by christmas.

Thanks for joining me,

That Brit Otaku (previously paulp1988)

JLPT N5 done

Hello All,

Just thought I would update my blog whilst waiting for my train (just missed one by about 30seconds and now have to wait 30mins for the next one due to Sunday service...). As the title of this blog suggests, I have just come out from my JLPT N5 examination and I feel slightly positive about it.

For those that don't know, the JLPT is an examination on your understanding of the Japanese language. There are 3 sections to this test, vocabulary, grammar, and listening.
The first section I found really easy, as it was effectively just a test of your kanji knowledge, which I have gotten really good at.
The second section tested your knowledge of Japanese sentence structure and particles. This onee I found a bit more difficult than the first section and by the end I was almost guessing the ones I weren't sure on (it's a multiple choice examination with generally 4 choices per question, had a good chance of getting it right lol).
The last section was a whole lot harder than I had anticipated. The language used seemed higher than JLPT N5 to me, but I may be wrong. There were a few easy questions there, and then I just tried my hardest to have an educated guess at the rest lol.

Unfortunately I won't find out until March 2012 if I passed, and I'm hoping the questions I was confident on are enough to get me through. Either way I'm going to take a few well deserved days off from studying and then prepare for JLPT N4 next year.

JLPT5 booked!!

おひさしぶりですね!

I can't believe I haven't posted in so long, I really should get better at that.

If any of you don't know what the phrase at the top means it is "it's been a while" (ohisashiburi desu ne). And obviously it has been too long!

I have now booked my JLPT5 examination. This will take place in December in the London SOAS university. I am already really nervous, and am slightly expecting to fail, but I am going to try my hardest and I will be happy no matter what.

The reason I am expecting to fail is that, although I know the majority of the JLPT5 vocabulary and kanji, I have never really tested my Japanese with anyone else as there is only one other person I know who is studying Japanese but she is at a LOT higher level than me, so I cannot understand the majority of it yet.

Another reason I feel like I may fail are that recently I seem to be forgetting some of the easier words, so am having to revise twice as hard as I used to. Maybe the adrenaline will kick in when I get in the exam and I will remember everything, but its really not helping my nerves at the moment.

As negative as I sound, I am sure I will do well, and I am normally a positive person so hopefully I will get that back before the exam.

My study routine has been taken up a notch aswell. Previously I would study the vocabulary and kanji maybe once a day, but now I am trying to do both of these multiple times a day so that I cram everything in by the exam. Actually, as I type this blog post, I am listening to a japanesepod101 lesson (it may be about culture, but there a few words in the lesson that I thought I had forgotten but I recognised them and knew what they meant!)

I will be posting a large, photo based, blog post hopefully later today or in the next few days of some of the studying I have been doing.

Thanks for reading!

Japanese and Taekwondo studies - Day one

Hello all,
Apologies for not posting for a little while, seems like i'm having trouble updating my blog as often as I would like.
Although I don't have a lot of picture evidence, which is something I always like to do when studying, I have been studying quite a bit recently but mostly revising. However, in the last couple of days I have been learning some new vocabulary and kanji.
The first pictures I took yesterday are the new vocabulary that I learnt, once again from a Japanesepod101.com Beginner lesson. The last picture is of my studies tonight, being literally surrounded by kanji study material and notebooks.
I learnt 10 new kanji tonight, which is the most I have learnt in one sitting as I tend to only learn them in blocks of 5. I am slowly getting closer to my goal of knowing 100 kanji, as only once I know that many will I even consider applying to take my JLPT5 examination.
The other part of my studying is for my next Tae Kwon Do grading, which is in around 4 weeks time. For this I only really need to study the theory, along with the Korean terms as I know the practical side pretty well. Fingers crossed I pass!
All of this studying has taken it out of me, so I am off to bed, night all!

Time to get back in to the swing of things

Hello all,

As the title of this blog states, it's about time I got back in to the swing of things with my studies. I gave myself a week off due to some issues at home that were making it very hard, nigh on impossible, to concentrate on anything at all, and most of all my japanese studies. Now that my week is up I thought it would be best to start over.

My studies for this morning was more of a revision class. I decided to read over all the notes I have with me before I go in to the office (i tend to get to work around 30mins early, so I sit in my car and study before work). Unfortunately for me it was only half of the notes that I had with me, so I am going to revise some more later with the remainder of my notes.

I cannot believe just how much I had retained in having a week away from my studies. In the past if I had not been studying everyday I would tend to forget most things straight away, but at least my memory has decided to lend me a hand with this and made things easier. I did however forget a few words, but ones that won't tend to come up in conversation very often...i hope... (let's face it, who uses 'economics' or 'psychology' in everyday conversations?)

Time for work now, but I shall study some more later.

Japanese - Mountain Climbing!

Hello All,

This post is one day late, so apologies for that. I did intend to upload this last night, but i started watching the Family Guy episodes that had been slowly filling up my Sky+ box and was some-what distracted until really late. Better late than never though...

The lesson i studied yesterday was another of Japanesepod's beginner lessons, this one being part of an occasional series revolving around one of the native language speakers, Natsuko, going on blind dates with 3 different men. This is the second of the 3 men, and this one is a mountain climber. I was actually laughing at various points during the dialogue for this episode as the man in the conversation did not seem to understand that Natsuko had never climbed a mountain, nor enjoyed doing so, and just carried on anyway.

I am still revising the notes from this lesson, but i have picked up the majority of the phrases, partly due to learning a few before, so am almost 100% confident on this lesson.

Without further ado, here is the picture of my studies:

I am going to my wife's grandparents for lunch today, so i will have a lot less time to study today, but i do intend to revise the Kanji i have been studying, as i haven't looked at them for a couple of days now, and then i will post the kanji i shall/have learnt today aswell.

Japanese study - Types of Weather

Hello All,

Just a quick post to show a part of my studies for today. Once again I learnt some new vocabulary with a Japanesepod101 Beginner Lesson, and this lesson was mainly to do with different types of weather. Oddly, i did seem to know most of the vocabulary but did not know the word for 'sunny' (up until now, I had only been able to moan about rain, and not be happy about sun in Japanese lol).

I had also tried reading a manga that i bought from one of my friends, called Densha no Otoko (Train Man) that i had been having quite a bit of trouble with mainly due to my Kanji knowledge, but I now seem to be able to read a lot more of the book, so hopefully I will be able to read the whole book in the next few months.

And without further a do, here is a snapshot of my studies for today:

p.s. If you cannot read Katakana or Hiragana (or my hand writing ^_^) i may start posting some notes on these writing systems as it is a LOT easier to pick up the language knowing these while learning the vocabulary aswell.

Nichiyoubi Update

Hello all

I have been rather busy for the last few days, so i haven't had much time to update my blog, but that doesn't mean my studies have stopped. I have been studying Kanji a bit more frequently this week, as it dawned on me that there is less than 5 months for my JLPT5 exam, and even less time to get my entry in for the exam. The kanji characters have always been my downfall, so i thought it best to study those a bit more as i tend to not have much trouble picking up the vocabulary.

Today however, i have been studying some vocabulary whilst doing some housework and cleaning my car. This gave me around 2hrs of study time, and although it wasn't dedicated time i still picked up a lot of the words.

I am going out shortly and hope to update my blog again later with my written studies. Also, i still need to complete those reviews i keep mentioning, if only there were more hours in the day!!

Until next time, またねい!

p.s. if you are unsure on the title, nichiyoubi is the Japanese word for Sunday

Kanji revision, and then 5 more

Hello All,

Just a quick update today as work has taken it out of me today, so I am quite tired today, but I wanted to start posting at least once a day on here as a sort of online journal of my studies, and so that if anyone else is interested in the Japanese language they can read this and see what I have learnt and maybe use this as revision for their own studies.

Today I listened to the next lesson in the beginner series of japanesepod101 (lesson 58 if memory serves me correctly), and then this evening I revised the kanji that I had learnt previously and then learnt 5 new kanji characters. This takes my known kanji upto around 50 characters, and seeing as you only need to know around 100 kanji for the JLPT5 examination I am halfway there.

Time for bed soon, where I shall relisten to the japanese lesson from earlier, so I shall post again tomorrow.

A change of pace (and lesson)

Hello everyone,

Today I did not manage to complete as much Japanese as I would have hoped, but the main reason for this is the lesson I was studying from was just repeating the vocabulary that I already knew. Therefore, the next lesson I am going to study will be from the Beginner section of Japanesepod101.

I also had another look at some Japanese textbooks that I have been contemplating buying for a few days now, and as I get paid on Thursday I think I may have to buy one or two of them then :)

I did however get sidetracked at work on my lunchbreak. Me and one of my work colleagues have started playing table football (or foosball, depending how you wish to pronounce it) on most of our breaks, but as we have played against eachother quite a lot now our games take even longer as we know how eachother play, so my intended quick burst of Japanese on my break did not go to plan.

I am hoping to complete some Japanese before I go to bed, but if not I shall listen to the listen whilst laying in bed so I can write some notes tomorrow.

Cya tomorrow :)

p.s. I am lining up a few reviews of things in the next few days, being for films, books, and games, so look out for them :)

It's been a little while, but about time!!

Good Evening / こんばんわ
It's been a little while since my last post, the reason for this is that my job has been hectic for the last week as one of my colleagues had been on leave so I was covering for them. This was quite stressful and made it difficult concrentrating on my studies, so I have not managed to study hardly anything in the last week. My colleague is however back tomorrow so I can get my studies in order :)
I managed to complete two lessons today, both of them in the Newbie section of the Japanesepod101 website. I am beginning to think it may be best to move on to the Beginner or Intermediate lessons as I started the 2nd season of beginner lessons and it appears to just be going over the old material again.
Without further a do, here is my infamously bad handwriting and the notes I made from the lessons today :)

Just a quick Saturday update

Hello again,

I've been a little busy for the last couple of days, so haven't had the chance to post anything, nor learn as much Japanese as i hoped.

I recently decided that i want to study for around 2 hours a day, be that solely learning new vocabulary or a combination of new vocabulary and revision, which hasn't gone to plan as much as i would like it to recently. For example, today i have completed around 45mins of revision but no new vocabulary at the moment. The reason for today is that i had a dentist appointment for a filling and hygienist in the middle of the day, and had other bits of housework to do, like cleaning out our rabbit hutch, which has collectively taken all the energy out of me today so haven't been able to put my mind to work as easily as normal.

The revision i did manage to complete was going over the Kanji i have studied. I recently purchased 'Kanji de Manga' for my kindle after completing the 'Kana de Manga' ebook (my review here) which is where i have been doing most of my kanji revision, but i also have Kanji flashcards that i bought from Amazon a while ago that i use aswell. I will be reviewing 'Kanji de Manga' soon, as it is another ebook i would recommend to anyone going for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) examinations.

Now, i'm off to do some more revision and will be posting again soon :)

'Kana de Manga' - Kindle Review

For the past few days i have been reading 'Kana de Manga' (link), more as a form of a revision, but also to use my kindle a bit more than i had been.

'Kana de Manga' starts off with a small introduction with pointers on how best to pronounce words in Japanese. This is always a useful addition, as this was one of the ways that i discovered the best pronunciation for the vowels in Japanese, especially as to a native English speaker it can be quite confusing for the letters I and E as the sounds are reversed in Japanese.

The book then progresses into displaying the characters one by one, with a small picture and story to accompany this (apologies for the poor quality, it appears to be quite difficult to take a clear picture of the Kindle screen):

The image of the character (be it either the Hiragana or Katakana, which are the 2 basic writing systems of Japanese if you did not know, and Kanji is the 3rd and most extensive writing system) is displayed at the top of the screen, with the correct way to write the character shown aswell. This is because some characters are meant to be drawn certain ways, so just writing the character as you see it is not always the best approach. The order of writing the strokes applies more to Kanji, as it can be incredibly difficult to write some Kanji characters when you have wrote the last line first, for example.
There is also an example word underneath the character, in this case it is 'neko'
which is the Japanese word for Cat. This serves two purposes, one showing the character in a word, and also teaching you a new word at the same time. Even though i was using this eBook as a revision tool there were a few words that i had not learnt previously in here, so i expanded my vocabulary as well.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone beginning the language, as even if you have learnt the Hiragana and Katakana characters there is quite a large amount of vocabulary that can be learnt from this book. The book may seem confusing at first, as most students would prefer to learn all of Hiragana then Katakana or vice-versa, as the book shows the same letter in hiragana then immediately in katakana, but this may just be my opinion as that is how i learnt both of these systems. Either way, it would be money well spent for anyone seriously thinking of, or already is, studying the Japanese language.

New Phone :)

Hello All,

Just a quick post before I go to bed. I bought myself the sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro today, which I had been debating to buy for a little while now. After having it for about 4hours now I am definitely enjoying it, and android as a whole, but have yet to try everything out so far so I will have more of a play tomorrow and post another blog post from the phone aswell.

In other news, I studied some more japanese today, the 3rd lesson in a storyline of a man in a coma and the hospital staff treating him.

Time for bed now, cya tomorrow :)

Sunday Laziness = Revision

Time for my first REAL post (after the intro), and it's time for Japanese...

Although it would be, but i ended up going to the in-laws for sunday lunch. So instead i thought it best to type up some notes and revise at the same time.

To start with, when i got up i read my Kanji and Kana books on my kindle (which i will probably write a review about at some point) just as some revision as i knew i wouldn't be able to put in the time i wanted for some serious study. Then once i had come back i started typing up my written notes on to the computer. I find that this really helps me as 1) i have terrible hand writing and even i cannot read it sometimes, and 2) it forces me to read the words again and this then jogs my memory into remembering the words i thought i had forgotten.

I learn nearly all of Japanese from Japanesepod101.com, which i have signed up to a 2 year subscription for so i can download all their material and keep learning even after that period has finished. I am currently using their 'Newbie' lessons at the moment, mainly as a form of revision but surprisingly i am learning some new words even though i wouldn't define myself as a newbie, more a beginner as i have been studying Japanese seriously for around a year now. I am also hoping to finally take my JLPT 5 or JLPT 4 exam this year so i can finally make something more of myself, as i am currently an office administrator but would rather be doing something i really enjoy, and Japanese is really interesting and enjoyable.

I also had a bit of an epiphany while at jury service a few months ago. The defendant needed an interpretor throughout the case, and although the interpretor did not stop talking all throughout the case it made me really want to go into interpretation as a career, which is what i am aiming for now.

I will have to take some pictures for the next posts (my phone is on charge at the moment so i cannot upload any pictures just yet) and i will be able to show what i am learning/reading, and just how bad my handwriting is.

Until next time :)

A Fresh Start!

Hello Everyone,

I have been toying with this idea for a little while, and after seeing 2 of my friends yesterday had created Blogger accounts i thought i would finally take the plunge. I have previously used Wordpress to create my blog, but it always seemed a bit too formal for me and the ways that i wanted to use my blog.

The main reason I started that blog was to keep up-to-date on my Japanese studies and to post them to friends, current and new, to show them what i am up to. The blog started very well, with me posting something everyday about the new words i had learnt, but i slowly got fed-up and stopped posting about 3 months ago. I believe the reason was because it all seemed too professional, whereas i just wanted something informal to show my friends, so now i'm here!!

Just to let you know, i will be mostly posting about the Japanese studies i will be doing, but i will also include other posts relating to games, books, movies and music from time to time, just so i can keep as much interest in this blog for me to post, and hopefully for others to enjoy. I may even post some lessons on Japanese for people if they are new to the language and would like some help from another (relatively) newbie ^_^

Well, that's the introduction out of the way, i hope people will read this blog, and i hope i can make friends with like minded people through this aswell.
